Having now heard her album, to compare her to Lily Allen is a travesty. Adele is far better, her smooth voice and song writing skill for starters...
And whilst we're on the subject of comparisons, there's only one similarity to Amy Winehouse - and that is I love both of their albums, when my expectations were low.
Daydreamer: A chilled, melodic start to her debut album, but on first listen you kinda want to skip it to speed up your new listening experience. This is definitely one of those tracks you have to listen to a few times. Vocally she is very good.
Best For Last: Sounds quite bluesy, simple yet effective guitar backing throughout the beginning. Then the song gets going, catchy, warming and just simply easy to listen to. Love it.
Chasing Pavements: The song everyone will have heard already; perfectly placed on the album, vocally excellent and the main reason I noticed her in the first place.
Cold Shoulder: I read on another review the similarities between the intro for this with Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy. It's true; the sound is there, for about 10 seconds... The song itself is more upbeat than the 3 previous tracks, and in the middle of it there is a section that reminds me strangely, of Kula Shaker. ("time and time again I play the role of fool")
Crazy For You: Not my favourite song on the album. I do most of my listening in the car and I have been known to skip this one on more than one occasion.
Melt My Heart To Stone: When this song begins is the point in the album where she reminds me of James Morrison. I can't explain why, but it's no bad thing, I am a fan of his work also. Love this song.
First Love: This is a good song, but I for me, it drags a little. Not my favourite, I think I like this less than Crazy For You.
Right As Rain: If she was ever going to be compared to Winehouse, it would be because of this track. Fabulously catchy, I love to sing along to this in the car. I love the lyrics too, definitely one of the best.
Make You Feel My Love: Simple, yet beautiful. It is just the right duration; if it lasted much longer it could get boring.
My Same: If Adele was to ever be compared to Gabriella Cilmi, it would probably be for about 3 seconds into this song. But Adele goes on to prove her refreshing style one more time in another upbeat track with catchy sections, while retaining a smooth blues sound.
Tired: Arguably one of the best, If not THE best song on this album. Her enunciation can remind you of Lily if you are trying to compare. Love this song.
I'm impressed, and very surprised. I haven't yet got bored of this album and 10/12 are all brilliant songs. A strong debut, and to top it off, she's a nice person, she isn't (yet) a media monster and I hope it stays that way. I hope to see her around for years to come.
Morrison's opening single The Only Night is an unusually upbeat pop record for the album, setting the mood for a mixed bag of gems that throw you a variety of moods from happiness to sorrow.
The next two singles, Save Yourself and You Make It Real have James Morrison written all over them.. in a good way. There's a part of me that feels You Make It Real's chorus resembles a more down beat version Simply Red's stars, if only for a second or two. You Make It Real still manages to be an utterly original and sensual melody, paving the way for a variety of even more appealing single releases.
The dramatic, melancholy collaboration with Nelly Furtado might remind you of Snow Patrol and Martha Wainwright's brilliant Set The Fire To The Third Bar and Precious Love puts Morrison's vocals to an emotional high as he wails powerfully through the song's smooth and catchy chorus.
If you were a fan of Morrison's first album, Undiscovered, you cannot afford to miss out on songs for you, truths for me. James' new album is everything it's first had.. and more.
This has to be one of the best albums I have bought in a long time. Every track is good usually there is always a couple of songs that don't do it for you but every track is great.
This is my first Neyo CD but not the last.
I would never consider myself to be a lover of the type of music that Celine Dion sings but I do think that she is the absolute best at what she does.A lot of people may well harp on about Mariah,Whitney or even Beyonce but Celine has always been one step above all of the other ballad singers and I really do believe that she has a great voice. She does seem to rub some people up the wrong way and she can be a trifle over dramatic but she gets away with it because of her singing talents.
This is a pretty good selection and includes her greatest song 'A New Day Has Come'.I don't think she has ever bettered it vocally and it is a special song.I say that as someone that likes Oasis,Slade and Alice Cooper!!We have been lucky enough to have seen her twice in concert and she was fabulous both times. She is a consumate professional and by and large always delivers.
If you still have any doubts, check out the picture of Celine on the cover.OK,I'm shallow but she looks fantastic and makes this compilation even more worthwhile!
I was a fan of scouting for girls until I got this album then I realised how annoying and similar every song is. Not good.
See how they prance on the beach. Look at the hippy's long pink shorts. Aren't they cheeky?
Good little pop number this - will never set the world alight, but a fun-filled head-nodder. Pop should be fun I think! This is as much fun as when Michael Jackson cut down a tree with his hand, or when Madonna wore coffee filters on her boobies.
Its a great album really shows how great they can sing. Differant but amazing, Amy winehouse,Duffy got hyped up for thier albums y haven't the babes? I reccomend No Can Do., Beware, You on a good day. Hell i reccomend the whole album maybe excpt girls.
Great tracks on this CD although they have been released many times the songs still sound ace and for me the early Cliff and the Shadows tracks were the 'Dogs Biscuits' and brings back the musical soundtrack of the 1960's together with the Beatles and Stones, I won't go into the merits of each track (hooray you shout) but I will order this CD even just to annoy her indoors. By the way I am listening to AC/DC Back in Black CD what a ace CD, while am writing this, anyway back to Cliff this CD is worth buying for less than a tenner and it also has some of the more recent tracks.
Go on do yourself and also order AC/DC Back in Black CD at same time as Cliff's new CD (forget Guitar Hero listen to the real thing or at least buy a guitar and try to learn to play)
