This album seems to be one which you either love or hate. Personally, I love it! Whereas some people feel that after a year's wait, this does not live up to the hype, I would definitely disagree. It is very rare that I find an album where I love every single track, but this is it. The main problem for Leona is that she went through the x-factor singing flawless renditions of some of the world's best known and best loved songs. Unfortunately, therefore, she was almost expected to produce an album of tracks which could rival these songs. And there is barely ever an album, no matter how great the artist, that contains nothing but classics. Lets be honest, though, Leona is the X-Factor's most deserved winner and is seriously talented. This indeed has some superb tracks and her singing is stunning. But, despite some up-tempo moments, it's definitely a very soulful album that makes use of her incredible voice so keep this in mind! To sum it up, wow!
I have to say,i have never really been a girls aloud fan,but when i saw them perform the 'promise' on last weeks X Factor show,i was blown away! the song is fantastic! and the girls were brilliant when they sang it,i think this will be their next number one.I bought it yesterday, and i can't stop playing it! If you are a girls aloud fan,you will love it,if you are not really a girls aloud fan,you will probably still love it!!
After the impenetrable 'St. Anger', this is something of a return to form. OK - it's back to the mainstream, but that's what most Metallica fans want. This album delivers in spades and all the songs clock in at between 5 and 8 minutes. It's classy, atmospheric, ballsy rock - the songs are good, the playing's tight, Hetfield's in fine voice, and all is well with the Metallica world. Recommended!
This compilation album needs little introduction as it has sold a zillion copies or something ;), and there is a reason for that. Nobody, not even The Beatles have created a finer collection of pop songs. Pop is often sneered at by some hoity toity music lovers, but there is no need. A finely crafted 3 minute pop tune can be just as meaningful and exquisite as any other piece of music. The tunes Bjorn & Benny created will live on forever, and the girls singing stays in your mind so very easily.
For me this is not their ultimate collection, as I liked more of the bitter-sweet songs they did like Eagle and The Day Before You Came. But that's a personal preference. This compilation contains all the biggest hits, including some of the camp/hi-nrg stuff that can be ever so slightly cringe-inducing nearly 30 years on. But that's just because things have moved on, leaving the production stuck in a point of time which can't be avoided and happens to all pop music.
Abba - a top class act and the ultimate pop band. No question about that.
I have just got the box set recently, and have been enjoying it greatly. Not just that, my three daughters aged 9, 6 and 2 are great fans, and want to listen to it all the time in the car. And the two-year-old even says 'Rock' once she hears the first few bars of 'We will rock you'. Just goes on to show that Queen truly made ageless music, which still scores far above most contemporary music.
It only arrived yesterday, and its growing on me!
I agree with another review I read that a couple of the tracks are similar in style to the Once Again album - which I loved! The others are quite different in style, and Track 1 is a nice change! Its good - buy it!
Much of the time bands who have gone into hibernation return with albums which are mere shadows of their previous work. This album is the complete opposite and successfully captures the eerie tones which occupy many of their best songs. I simply cannot pick a favourite from an album which oozes style.
I would give the DVD 5 star rating too. The program is awesome. Take That is in it's best form, and concert is wonderfully conceived.
I trained myself to perceive buying something I like on a Blu-ray, after I already have it on a DVD, as an upgrade and not double-dipping. As such, I expect it to actually BE an upgrade...
Unfortunately... it was lit for the in-house audience and not for cameras (at least not for cameras used to shoot this concert). Insufficient light leads to grain and grain is abundant here, there is a lot of blocking and it is obvious that there is something gravely wrong with the colors and contrast. It's blooming, posterized and painful to watch. I wasn't expecting much of an improvement over the DVD, judging by the difference between their previous DVD and Blu-ray, but this exceeded all my grim expectations... DVD itself looked ok, but when I inspect it now, after seeing the Blu-ray, I see that the grain is inherent in the source material, it was only far less visible (almost invisible) in the inferior resolution of the DVD. On the Blu-ray, I can only see grain and color banding...
Needless to say, this is the worse Blu-ray disc I have, an awfull presentation of a wonderful content. To add insult to injury, DTS HD Master Audio track that is advertised on the package is nowhere to be found on the disc, giving more of an amateurish feel to all the proceedings... They wrote: "Music Never Looked Or Sounded So Good" on the cover. I beg to differ! I am sorely dissapointed, even if I didn't expect too much of an improvement over the DVD. Both Take That and their fans deserve better.
My 7 year old son loves audio books and we have lots! He likes King Arthur tales but they can often be quite difficult to read and understand. However this is read brilliantly and we have both been gripped. Admittedly I have quite often had to pause it and explain parts but it is read in chapters which gives you convenient places to recap. We have listened travelling to and from school and for 3 nights we sat in the car on the drive listening to see what happens. This is a great next step if they are getting a little to old for 'Stories for 5/6/7 year olds" audio books. It really is great. Buy it!
This deluxe edition of Michael Jackson the king of pop has a lot more to it in terms of more songs that would have been found on the number ones best of like Dirty Diana whilst disc 3 has a number of classic rarities that have never been released before like can't get outta the rain a single b-side edit that has never been released before and boosted by the thriller megamix which may not be to eveybody elses tastes but atleast this has a lot more to it than the single disc version which i felt was lightweight in comparison to the deluxe box set edition of Michael Jackson the king of pop.
